About the campaign
The 'Get Moving' campaign used a chair character to encourage kids to be active… to get off their chairs and 'Get Moving!'
The aim was to get kids enjoying physical activity for an hour or more a day, by suggesting fun ways to be active and letting them know why it's good for their health.Together with 'Go for 2&5™' fruit and vegetable campaign, 'Get Moving!' gave kids and families reliable, practical and user-friendly information on how to be active and information on why it's so important.
Related to this campaign, the Active After-school Communities (AASC) program is a national after school hours physical activity and health program for children enrolled in Australian primary schools and Out of School Hour Care Services. It aims to improve the health and well being of Australia's children through structured physical activity. For more information on this program, visit http://www.ausport.gov.au/aasc/
Who the campaign was for
The 'Get Moving' campaign was mostly aimed at kids aged 5-12, but it's also designed to reach teenagers and importantly parents and carers, who have an important role to play in influencing the physical activity and behaviour of children and young people. The message
The key message of the campaign was to 'get moving for an hour or more a day'. This is based on the Department of Health and Ageing's Australia's Physical Activity Recommendations for Children and Young PeopleSpecific campaign messages include:
- Children need at least 60 minutes (and up to several hours) of moderate to vigorous physical activity every day.
- Children should not spend more than two hours a day using electronic media for entertainment (e.g. computer games, TV, Internet), particularly during daylight hours.
