Learning from Successful Community Obesity Initiative

Information about the collaboration of community-based obesity prevention sites.

In 2007-08, the Australian Government committed funding for 4 years to the Collaboration of Community-based Obesity Prevention Sites (CO-OPS) to develop and implement the Learning from Successful Community Obesity Initiative.

This initiative will bring together the lessons learnt from a range of community projects aimed at preventing obesity (whole of community sites to smaller community interventions), analyse the data to determine which projects work well and share this knowledge with other communities/organisations that are investing in these programs.

Through the development of best practice principles and the sharing of knowledge and resources, community programs will be better able to initiate and sustain obesity prevention programs and initiatives.

The project is managed by the WHO Collaborating Centre for Obesity Prevention at Deakin University; and works in partnership with the University of Melbourne and the University of Sydney in delivering its project outcomes.
