Harry Kewell is one of Australia’s most gifted and well known soccer players. At just 17 years of age Harry moved to the UK to play for the Leeds United football team and has since moved to the Liverpool football team.
Luckily for Australia, Harry has also been a member of the Australian soccer team. At the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany, Harry scored the crucial goal that sent Australia through to the second round.
In September 2006, the Australian soccer superstar was announced as the first Healthy Active Ambassador.
Message from Harry Kewell
Hi. I’m Harry Kewell and I’m proud to be a Healthy Active Ambassador. My battles to help Australia on the football field have been tough. But that’s nothing compared with the battle Australia faces in the fight against obesity.Nothing’s more important than our health. And every healthy life starts out with a good, balanced diet and lots of exercise.
Football is a big part of my life. But I didn’t start playing football when I was young because I wanted it to be my job. I played football because it was fun. It doesn’t matter whether we’re talking serious, organised sport or just kicking a ball around the backyard. The important thing is to get out and get active for at least an hour a day, because nothing beats the feeling of being outside, playing with your mates.
And I’ll let you in on a little secret – it will help keep you fit and healthy too. Being fit and healthy has been so important to me. And being fit and healthy is important for you too, not matter what you want to do when you grow up.
The lessons I learnt from my parents about good food and a balanced diet helped take me around the world. And they’re lessons I’m teaching my kids too.
So whatever you want to be when you grow up, remember – a good diet and an active lifestyle is your passport to a healthy future.
