Working together for a Healthy Active Australia

The site provides access to practical information and up-dates, news for families, parents, teenagers, children and their carers and older Australians on healthy eating, regular physical activity, overweight and obesity, particularly for children and adolescents and active living.

Through a range of projects, the Australian Government is tackling obesity head-on. It is leading the way in informing, encouraging and providing practical assistance for people to make better lifestyle choices and lead healthier lives.

The Government has established the Healthy Living Ministerial Taskforce. This combines all the relevant portfolios with an interest in this vital issue. The Taskforce is chaired by the Hon Tony Abbott MP, Minister for Health and Ageing. The Taskforce provides policy advice to the Government, ensuring a whole-of-government approach to addressing overweight and obesity. The Taskforce will also involve industry and the non-government sector to promote healthy living for all Australians.

The Australian Government is helping all Australians achieve healthier lives through initiatives such as the Around Australia in 40 Days walking challenge, the Healthy Active Ambassador Program, a National Children’s Nutrition and Physical Activity Survey, a new Healthy Weight website, the Active After-School Communities program and the Active School Curriculum.

The Healthy School Communities Grants Program closed on 22 December 2006. Visit the website for more information about how to account for your school's funds or to download a copy of the Statutory Declaration Form.
